CAIRO – 20 September 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi said that Egypt was very keen to settle the sustainable development goals [SDGs] and to merge it in its development programs and policies in all aspects since a very long time.
He added in his speech during participating at the United Nations session to discuss the sustainable development goals that ‘Egypt Vision 2030’ national agenda announced by the government was a comprehensive frame for Egypt’s efforts in adopting the UN SDGs.
“Achieving the SDGs became more important nowadays more than ever to face the international challenges especially with the spread of COVID-19 pandemic” Sisi said
He added that: “Poverty, unemployment, complicated political circumstances in several places around the world, the impact of climate change on water and Covid-19 on economic and health conditions; all have become daily challenges that must be dealt with in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.”
He also noted that the challenges that the world has faced during the past two years have proven the importance of the 2030 SDGs agenda and the need of dealing with it according to a comprehensive perspective.
“Egypt realized that the goal of any development plans was the citizens, which is the reason of setting strategies aims to meet the Egyptians ambitions and needs in proper living circumstances and jobs” Sisi said.
He explained that ‘Haya Karima’ national initiative in Egypt represents one of the most ambitious and comprehensive development programs which aims at achieving sustainable development in the countryside, where the majority of Egyptians are living.
He added that: “the success that Egypt achieved over the past years did not come without sacrifices, during which the Egyptians have proved their abilities to bear difficulties for the sake our country,”
He affirmed that ‘despite all the challenges and difficulties, Egypt still continues to implement its ambitious economic reform program which made the country able to bare the results of COVID-19 economic repercussions and allowed the government to take all needed measures to ease its effects.
