Egypt, UN Discuss Humanitarian Response in Gaza and Sudan

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher on Sunday, September 20, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in several conflict and crisis zones, particularly Gaza and Sudan.

Abdelatty stressed the need to ensure full access for humanitarian and relief assistance to the Gaza Strip, protect civilians, and advance efforts toward early recovery and reconstruction.

On Sudan, the foreign minister emphasized the importance of ensuring unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people and providing protection for civilians.

Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the work of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, highlighting its central role in responding to humanitarian crises.

He stressed the importance of continued close coordination with the United Nations and its specialized agencies to help alleviate civilian suffering in areas affected by conflict and crises.

Fletcher, for his part, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting humanitarian and relief efforts in the region. He also praised the ongoing cooperation and coordination with Egypt to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to people affected by crises.
