Egypt, US Discuss Sudan, Libya and Regional Developments

gyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with US Presidential Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and a number of regional issues.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its strategic partnership with the United States and stressed Cairo’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding it in ways that serve the mutual interests of both countries.

The two sides discussed developments in Sudan, with Abdelatty stressing the need to preserve the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as protect its national institutions and resources.

He also emphasized the importance of building on ongoing efforts to end the conflict and create conditions for political solutions through dialogue and negotiations.

The talks also covered developments in Libya and efforts to advance the political process and end the country’s division.

Abdelatty reaffirmed the priority of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while supporting the unity of its national institutions. He also stressed the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to support the Libyan political process and help the country’s parties reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.

The meeting also addressed other regional issues, including developments in Yemen and the Iran crisis.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of de-escalation and prioritizing political solutions to strengthen regional security and stability. He also emphasized the need to ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with international law.
