Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Carolyn Burkett, Guyana’s former foreign minister and a candidate for the post of United Nations secretary-general on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The meeting focused on Burkett’s vision and priorities for the future of the United Nations, as well as ways to strengthen the organization’s role and capacity to address growing international challenges amid rapid changes in the global system.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding support for the United Nations and multilateral action, stressing the importance of upholding the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law to promote international peace, security and cooperation.
