Egypt, US Discuss Iran, Sudan and Libya in High-Level Call

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Masad Boulos, Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump for Arab and African Affairs, as part of ongoing consultations between Egypt and the United States on regional developments.

The two officials discussed the latest developments related to the crisis with Iran, with Abdelatty stressing the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

The talks also addressed ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt the escalation in Sudan. Abdelatty emphasized the need to build on current efforts to end the conflict, create conditions for a political solution, and promote dialogue and negotiations.

He reiterated Egypt’s position on preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while safeguarding its national institutions.

The discussion also covered developments in Libya and efforts to advance the political process and overcome the country’s prolonged division.

Abdelatty said Egypt’s approach to the Libyan file prioritizes the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, alongside support for unified national institutions. He also highlighted the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to support the Libyan political process and help the country’s parties reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
