Egypt and India Discuss Expanding Cooperation in AI, Cybersecurity and Digital Skills

Egypt and India discussed ways to expand cooperation in information and communications technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital skills and investment in the technology sector.

Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi met with Suresh K. Reddy, India’s Ambassador to Egypt, to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in digital capacity building, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The meeting also addressed efforts to encourage greater Indian investment in Egypt’s ICT sector, particularly in outsourcing, digital services and electronics manufacturing.

The two sides reviewed existing cooperation under memoranda of understanding covering information technology, cybersecurity, digital skills development and training for specialists in ICT and electronics.

Hindi highlighted the continued expansion of Egypt-India cooperation in the technology sector and stressed the importance of building on existing partnerships, particularly in digital skills and artificial intelligence.

He noted that Egypt’s strategic geographic location positions it as a potential gateway for Indian companies seeking to expand into African and Middle Eastern markets. He also pointed to Egypt’s large pool of young technology professionals as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in outsourcing and digital services.

Reddy, meanwhile, expressed India’s interest in encouraging Indian companies to invest in Egypt. He noted that India is scheduled to host a global mobile phone industry conference in October and highlighted the country’s position as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, alongside its growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing and electronics.

The discussions also covered expanding cooperation between Egyptian and Indian institutions in training, knowledge transfer and digital capacity building, as well as strengthening private-sector ties to support startups, innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The two sides further explored opportunities to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, including research and development, advanced skills, knowledge exchange and the responsible use of technology.

The meeting also discussed encouraging Egyptian companies and institutions to participate in specialized international exhibitions and events hosted by India, with the aim of identifying new opportunities for partnerships and investment.
