Egypt to receive last Russian train vehicles batch by end of 2023

CAIRO – 12 December 2020: Egypt's Chairman of the Railways Authority Engineer Ashraf Raslan assured that the delivery of all the new Russian train vehicles will be completed by the end of 2023.


The batches are part of a contract with the Russian Transmach Holding Company.


So far, the railway authority has received 173 new vehicles with dymanic ventilation as part of the contract.


The first batch of the vehicles arrived in July. The experimental trial of the model vehicle was conducted without passengers to ensure its safety.


The cost of the 1,300 vehicles is €1.065 billion that are being funded in the form of a soft loan.


The agreement with the Russian-Hungarian alliance led by Transmachholding Company includes the supply of the 1300 vehicles within 40 months of the date of activating the signed contract.


The agreement includes manufacturing and importing 800 air-conditioned vehicles.
