CAIRO – 25 August 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met on Monday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, in Jeddah on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The OIC meeting is held to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and its regional implications.
The two ministers addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, emphasizing their aspiration for continued consultation and coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Moreover, they exchanged views of the catastrophic situation in Gaza as a result of the Israeli aggression.
Abdelatty and Araqchi discussed preparations for the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the OIC, to discuss mechanisms for action to halt the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
For his part, Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and secure the release of a number of hostages and prisoners.
He highlighted the ceasefire proposal submitted by Egypt and Qatar to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and ensure the delivery of sufficient aid to meet the needs of the Palestinian people, who are subjected to a systematic policy of starvation.
Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt's firm stance on the situation in Lebanon, noting Egypt's ongoing contacts with all relevant regional and international parties, which emphasize the need to halt foreign interference in Lebanese affairs, respect Lebanese sovereignty, and ensure Israel's withdrawal from the five occupied areas in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
He emphasized Egypt's support for efforts to empower Lebanese national institutions to fulfill their role in serving the brotherly Lebanese people.
The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, as Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's rejection of any actions that would undermine the security, safety, and stability of the Syrian people. He emphasized the need for Syria not to be a threat to regional stability.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, the two sides discussed developments in the Iranian nuclear file and efforts to de-escalate the situation and resume negotiations between Iran, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the United States to find peaceful solutions to the issue, away from military solutions, as this will contribute to strengthening mutual trust and creating a conducive environment for achieving regional security and stability.
