CAIRO – 21 August 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Wednesday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss the ceasefire efforts in Gaza and regional developments, including Iran’s nuclear program negotiations

Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khalaf revealed that the two sides reviewed the latest ceasefire negotiations following Hamas’s approval of a US proposal.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of Israel accepting the plan to secure the release of hostages, ease the suffering of civilians in Gaza, and allow sufficient humanitarian aid.

The minister affirmed that the current opportunity should be used to end nearly two years of war and launch negotiations for a fair settlement of the Palestinian issue.

On Iran, Abdelatty reaffirmed that escalation must be avoided and that there is no military solution to the nuclear file or regional crises, noting that Egypt is exerting great efforts to support a return to negotiations that can reinforce stability and security.

He also underlined Egypt’s commitment to working with the United States to advance peace in the Middle East in line with US President Donald Trump’s vision of ending decades of conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.
