Egypt denounces Israeli decision to establish 800 new settlement units Wed, Jan. 13, 2021
CAIRO – 12 January 2020: Egypt’s Foreign Ministry denounced on Tuesday the Israeli government approval of 800 new settlement units in the West Bank, describing the Israeli decision as a new violation of the international legitimacy resolutions.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez expressed Egypt's concern over the step which he said would undermine the two-state solution.

He said the Israeli decision coincided with efforts exerted by international partners to resume Palestinian-Israeli talks, pointing out the Israeli practices have negative consequences for the security and stability of the region.

On Monday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated, in quadripartite meeting with his Jordanian, French and German counterparts to stimulate peace efforts in the region, and especially the Palestinian issue.

According to Hafez the meeting aimed to stimulate peace efforts in the region and resolve the current stalemate in the Palestinian issue by urging the Palestinian and Israeli sides to negotiate and reach a just and comprehensive political settlement based on the two-state solution.
