CAIRO - 17 August 2019: Cairo University jumped 100 ranks to occupy a 301-400-category place in the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by president Mohamed Othman Al Khosht. He hailed the achievement as a great success for the Egyptian universities as well as an evidence of progress achieved by the research system over the past year, according to state news agency MENA.

"This success comes for the first time in the history of Egyptian universities", he said.

In the same context, Ain Shams and Alexandria universities were ranked in the 701-800, category, followed by Mansoura University which was placed in the 801-900 category.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities has been presenting the world top 500 universities annually based on transparent methodology and objective third-party data.

It has been recognized as the precursor of global university rankings and the most trustworthy one.

On other hand, the parliamentarian Hussien Abo Gad told Egypt Today, "this success is a great historic achievement for Egypt and the Egyptian universities."

This classification, which started in 2003, is considered the most difficult, most famous and strongest in the international classifications in terms of strict criteria that depend on the number of scientific research published internationally as well as the number of scientific research cited and reference for scientific reference. In addition to the number of Nobel Prize winners and professors in addition to the international reputation.
