Egypt's Sisi orders government to increase number of seawater desalination plants

CAIRO – 18 August 2020: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to increase the national water projects, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi.



In a meeting held on Monday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Housing Minister Asem el Gazzar and Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Amir Sayed Ahmed, President revealed that the water desalination projects cost a total of EGP435 billion.


Egypt has announced $2.8 billion for construction of a five-year plan to build 47 desalination plants nationwide, reported Construction Review Online on July 13, 2020.



Egypt is implementing a group of water projects including water treatment and desalination plants to overcome the shortage of water it suffers.
