CAIRO – 6 April 2020: "The South Korean government announced allocating $200,000 in emergency aid to support Egypt’s efforts in fighting coronavirus," announced Ambassador of South Korea to Egypt Yoon Yu-chul.

The decision was announced took place in a video conference the South Korean ambassador held with Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat to discuss ways of cooperation to contain the implications of COVID-19, according to a statement issued by the embassy in Cairo.

This coincides with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt. South Korean President Moon Jae-in was scheduled to visit Egypt in mid-March to hold discussions with Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, but the visit was postponed due to the global spread of the coronavirus epidemic. Instead, the two leaders held a cordial and constructive phone call on March 6 on ways to enhance the distinguished bilateral relations and cooperation in combating this emerging disease.

The Korean government re-affirmed its readiness to support Egypt in its efforts to counter this epidemic and mitigate the social and economic impacts of COVID-19.
