CAIRO - 14 August 2025: Egypt has condemned “in the strongest terms” the Israeli government’s approval of constructing 3,400 settlement units in the vicinity of occupied East Jerusalem.
In a Thursday statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said this is yet another attempt to alter the demographic status of Palestinian lands, as East Jerusalem and the West Bank are both parts of the Palestinian territories.
“This is a blatant violation of international law, relevant Security Council resolutions, and international conventions,” the statement said.
Egypt also condemned the extremist statements issued by the Israeli Foreign Minister calling for the imposition of Israeli sovereignty and expansionism over the West Bank.
Such actions “will not achieve freedom or exclusivity for any state, including the Israeli territory, nor does it meet the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people,” the statement affirmed.
Egypt rejected “the massive settlement expansion and the increasingly reprehensible statements” within the Israeli government, which only “fuel hatred, extremism, and violence.”
It reiterated its warning to Israel against “being swayed by false assumptions about the [possibility of the] liquidation of the Palestinian cause and the creation of the so-called ‘Greater Israel.’”
Any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause through displacement and confiscation will render the ongoing project to reach comprehensive peace amongst nations in the Middle East and North Africa a failure, Egypt warned.
Egypt reiterated that establishing a Palestinian state is the only way to lasting peace, and that the Israeli policy of rejecting peace is the main source of instability in the region.
