The Supreme Council of Culture organizes a symposium on "Traditional Architecture in Egypt... Present and Future"

The Fine Arts and Architecture Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture, chaired by Dr. Suhair Othman, will hold a symposium and exhibition on “Traditional Architecture in Egypt: The Present and the Future”, on Monday, March 13, at 10:00 am, at the Hanager Theater and the Adam Hanin Showroom at the Hanager Art Center.

The program of the event includes a symposium consisting of three sessions, and the opening of an exhibition that includes paintings about architecture without architects, as follows, from ten to eleven in the morning, the first session: Environmental Local Architecture in the Egyptian Regions: Interaction of Place, Time and Value, and the session is moderated by Dr. Adel Yassin, Professor of Architecture and former dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, Ain Shams University.

Speakers: Dr. Hamid Al-Mawsili, Emeritus Professor of Production Design and Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and talks about: “Materials, Natural Elements, and Local Character”, Dr. Tariq Wali, Founder and Director of Tariq Wali Center for Architecture and Heritage, and talks about: “Popular architecture, the architectural reference between tradition and renewal

- Architect and teacher Essam Safi El-Din, architect and teacher of architecture and design in faculties and institutes of engineering, and talks about: "The Museum of Folk Architecture", and Dr. And they talk about: "The compatible architecture is a tribute to the late Hani El Miniawy".

As for the second session, titled Current Trends in Contemporary Domestic Architecture in Egypt, the session will be moderated by: Dr. Dalila El-Kardani, Professor of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University and the American University, and member of the committee. The second session includes short presentations of new experiences in contemporary domestic architecture.

Speakers: Eng. Karim Ibrahim, Eng. Radwa Rostom, Eng. Imad Farid, Eng. Muhammad Al-Khatib, Eng. Jamal Amer, and Eng. Maryam Qureshi, Eng. Hamdi Al-Satohi, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and the opening of the exhibition (and extends until Wednesday, March 15, 2023)

The third session is entitled Current Trends in Contemporary Local Architecture in Egypt. The session is moderated by: Consultant Engineer Mohamed Abu Saada, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Organization for Urban Harmony. Speaking in it: Dr. Hany Hosni, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, and Director of the Technical Office of the National Organization. For Cultural Harmonization, on: "Presentation of the Project of Evidence Supporting the Visual Identity of the Egyptian Regions."

This event aims to shed light on the characteristics of local environmental architecture in the Egyptian regions and its authentic character, and to present the traditional values that highlight it, in addition to some lessons learned from it in contemporary Egyptian architecture.

This event is held in cooperation between the Council, the National Organization for Urban Harmony, headed by the consultant engineer, Muhammad Abu Saada, and the Cultural Production Affairs Sector, headed by director Khaled Jalal.
