CAIRO – 29 June 2025: Egypt strongly condemned the repeated assaults committed by Israeli settlers in several cities and villages in the occupied West Bank, the latest of which resulted in the killing and injury of several Palestinians in the village of Kafr Malik.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement on Saturday that “These systematic attacks against the Palestinian people are undoubtedly a blatant violation of international law and the four Geneva Conventions, undermining all efforts aimed at achieving security, peace, and stability”.
Israeli settlers on Wednesday set fire to multiple homes and vehicles and, along with Israeli forces, opened fire on Palestinian residents in Kafr Malik village, east of Ramallah, killing three and injuring seven more, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The Israeli police later announced releasing all five settlers arrested during the attacks and informed that they are no longer suspects, reported Israeli Haaretz.
A video shared on social media depicts Israeli soldiers removing posters that were put up to honor the three individuals who lost their lives while defending against the settlers’ assault.
Crowds of people in Ramallah and Al-Bireh held a funeral to bid farewell for the three victims, Murshed Hamayel, Mohammed Al-Naji and Lutfi Sabri ahead of leaving them at their final resting place.
Egypt emphasized the necessity for the international community to act to put an end to these flagrant abuses and to take responsibility for addressing the ongoing injustice faced by the Palestinian people under occupation.
Egypt calls for accountability and action to protect the Palestinian people from the crimes of settlers.
The statement reiterated Egypt’s firm position that all Israeli settlements in the occupied Arab territories are illegal and represent a major obstacle to reaching a just settlement of the Palestinian cause.
Moreover, Egypt reaffirmed its full support for the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate aspirations for the establishment of an independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The settlers' violence in the occupied West Bank has intensified since the Israeli war broke out in Gaza in October 7, 2023.
Over the past 20 months, the Israeli forces have killed more than 56,400 Palestinians in Gaza, injured over 133,000 more, devastated vital infrastructure, flattened homes and left the enclave on brink of famine.
In the West Bank, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 947 Palestinians, including 200 children between October 7, 2023 and June 12, according to the UN on June 20.
