CAIRO – 29 June 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the acceleration of a public-private partnership (PPP) for Hurghada International Airport, aiming to finalize the offering before the end of 2025.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting held on Saturday in New Alamein City, where President El-Sisi met with Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny and EgyptAir In-Flight Services Chairwoman Soheir Abdullah.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy, the meeting also reviewed the progress of the "New Republic Air Gateway" — a major infrastructure project underway at Terminal 4 of Cairo International Airport. The project is designed to accommodate 30 million passengers annually, pushing the airport’s overall capacity to over 60 million, while incorporating modern safety and sustainability standards.
Discussions further covered advancements in Egypt’s air navigation systems, which have earned commendations from international bodies such as Eurocontrol, ICAO, and IATA. These accolades come at a time when regional air traffic has surged, with more than 1,600 aircraft passing through Egyptian airspace each day.
Minister El-Hefny added that a broader strategy to involve the private sector in the management of 11 major airports is nearing completion, with finalization targeted for summer 2025.
He also highlighted EgyptAir’s continued improvement in global airline rankings, moving up 20 places to 68th out of 325 carriers. The airline is concurrently executing a fleet renewal plan, with a target of expanding its fleet to 97 aircraft by 2028–2029.
