CAIRO -2 July 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday with the European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, as part of the ongoing coordination to strengthen relations between Egypt and the European Union.

Minister Abdelatty lauded the progress witnessed in Egypt-EU relations and the efforts by both sides in implementing the six pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

He welcomed the efforts made by the European Commissioner and her support in securing the European Parliament and Council’s approval of the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance package to Egypt, amounting to €4 billion, which will contribute to supporting Egypt’s efforts in facing multiple economic and developmental challenges amid ongoing regional and international instability.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s keenness to further enhance economic, investment, and trade relations with the European Union across various sectors, in light of the priority accorded by the Egyptian government to attract foreign investments.

The call also addressed the issue of migration, during which Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of linking migration with development and addressing the root causes of irregular migration.

He underscored the need to strengthen the partnership in the area of regular migration and to support European investments in Egypt in ways that contribute to job creation.

The call also touched upon developments in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of resuming the ceasefire and ensuring the flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, in light of the severe deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Strip.

He reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts in this regard, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States. He also informed the EU Commissioner of Egypt’s intention to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza once a ceasefire agreement is reached, in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.

He further reviewed Egypt’s diplomatic engagements in this context. He stressed the important role of the European Union and its member states, especially given that the EU is the largest donor to the Palestinian National Authority.
