On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of its opening, the New Valley Museum displays the archaeological holdings of the rulers of the oases

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a statement a while ago that the New Valley Museum organized a temporary archaeological exhibition under the title of the royal exhibits of the rulers of the oases in the Old Kingdom until the end of February, on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of its opening.

For his part, Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the exhibition includes a number of distinguished artifacts that shed light on the ancient rulers of the oases, the most prominent of which is a statue of the oasis ruler Imabebi, and his wife sitting on a chair, each placing his hand on the other’s shoulder, and a number of Among the utensils for the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of King Pepi I, and the headrest of the ruler of the oases, Khentka.


It will also be on the sidelines of the celebration; Organizing a symposium to be given by Tariq Al-Qalai, Director General of the Museum; It deals with the establishment of the museum and its contents.

For his part, the Director General of the New Valley Museum indicated that the museum includes 4,087 artifacts; Its history dates back to the beginning of the prehistoric era until the era of the Muhammad Ali family, and among its most prominent possessions is the contents of the tomb of the ancient oasis ruler, Khent Ka, which was found in the archaeological area of ​​Balat, by the Egyptologist Dr. Ahmed Fakhry in the seventies of the last century.


The museum also displays; A group of human wooden coffins, ornaments and statues of some deities from the Greek and Roman eras, and groups of icons, lamps and Coptic wood from the Coptic era.

It should be noted that the New Valley Antiquities Museum is located in the city of Kharga, the administrative capital of the New Valley Governorate. The dome method, to be an administrative headquarters, to inspect the antiquities of the new valley, and this building included a longitudinal hall; It was the nucleus of the new museum, in which 37 artifacts from the excavations of Dr. Ahmed Fakhry were displayed.


In February 1993, the Egyptian Antiquities Authority established the current headquarters of the New Valley Antiquities Museum, on an area of ​​3,150 square meters, and consisting of 3 floors to display the artifacts in storage from the excavations of various missions in the New Valley Antiquities area, and to spread cultural and archaeological awareness among the residents of the region.
