Meet the winners of the Dr. Zahi Hawass award 2020

Today, Saturday, Dr. Zahi Hawass, an archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities, presented the annual award to the Zahi Hawass Center for Egyptian Women for the best archaeological and restorer for the year 2020, for the third year in a row, in the presence of Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, at the Ministry's headquarters Zamalek.

Salah al-Masakh, chief inspector of the antiquities of Karnak, for the excavation works by the Rams Road, and Muhammad Wahb Allah, the antiquities inspector at Tuna al-Jabal for the excavations of Tuna al-Jabal, were awarded the prize for the best archaeologist, and Saadi Awad, director of restoration of the Karnak temple, was awarded the best restorer award for restoration work Rams of the Karnak temple.

It is customary for this award to be awarded in conjunction with the celebration of the Archaeologists' Day corresponding to January 14 of each year while celebrating it at the Egyptian Opera House, but in light of the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, the prizes were announced and presented to the winners.

Dr. Zahi Hawass’s annual award is given to the best archaeologist and restorer from the Supreme Council of Antiquities since 2018, and the amount is 15 thousand pounds for each winner. During the past year, Dr. Zahi Hawass increased the prize value to become the best two archaeologists and one restorer annually.

Salah Al-Masakh works as director of the temples of Karnak, and was responsible for the excavation project in front of the temples of Karnak, as well as assumed many job duties at the Supreme Council of Antiquities. Including the director of excavation sites in front of the Karnak temples, he also participated in the groundwater reduction project on the western mainland of Luxor. He has many articles and papers in scientific journals regarding Egyptology. He has also given many lectures in many international scientific conferences and many countries on Egyptology and the most important recent discoveries, including the United States of America - Italy - Cyprus - France.

Muhammad Wahb Allah Abdel Aziz works as an antiquities inspector in the Tuna al-Jabal archaeological area, as he was a member of the Egyptian-Italian mission in the Sheikh Ubadah antiquities area in Minya and a member of the Egyptian mission of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in the al-Ghuraifah antiquities area of ​​Tuna al-Jabal. He also worked as a supervisor of foreign missions in the southern Minya antiquities area and was assigned to carry out excavation work Affiliated to the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Meanwhile, Saadi Zaki Abdullah Al-Jamal works as director of restoration of the Karnak Temple and the Temple of Death, and participated in the excavation project and restoration of the Ramses II statues behind the first pylon in the Karnak temples and the restoration of the inscriptions on the walls of the Opet Temple. In addition to the participation of the Argentine mission in the work of documenting Cemetery No. 338 in the Cemetery of Ashraf. He also participated in the restoration of the wall reliefs in the open courtyard of the Khonsu Temple, the restoration of the Talat stones in the Akhenaten store, the maintenance and cleaning of the shrine of Amenhotep the First and the Karnak Temple in cooperation with the American Research Center. He also participated in the excavations of the Egyptian mission in the Roman region, east of the Luxor Temple.
