CAIRO – 6 July 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a series of high-level calls on the evening of July 4 and the morning of July 5 in efforts to prevent regional escalation and encourage coordination between all relevant parties.
Minister Abdelatty engaged with several regional and international counterparts to consolidate the ceasefire between Iran and Israel. These included Abbas Araqchi, Iranian Foreign Minister; Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Omani Foreign Minister; Jean-Noël Barrot, French Foreign Minister; Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East; and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The discussions focused on the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to solidify the ceasefire, resume diplomatic processes, and relaunch negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file. The goal is to address concerns through peaceful means, reduce tensions, and establish long-term regional stability.
All parties expressed appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic role in reducing tensions, fostering dialogue, and building consensus to serve the interests of all stakeholders and promote calm during this critical period.
In a separate call with U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff, Minister Abdelatty reviewed ongoing developments related to the ceasefire in Gaza. The discussion covered efforts to release hostages and detainees, ensure full humanitarian aid access to the Strip, and prepare for indirect negotiations between the involved parties to reach a lasting agreement.
Minister Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's preparations to host the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, to be convened immediately following a ceasefire agreement.
Envoy Witkoff commended Egypt’s sustained efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and reaffirmed the importance of its constructive role in supporting regional peace and stability.
