CAIRO - 9 April 2025: Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, briefed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, during their visit to El-Arish General Hospital on Tuesday, the state’s efforts to provide necessary healthcare and treatment for injured Palestinians arriving from Gaza.
In this regard, he noted that Egypt has received approximately 107,000 Palestinians, who underwent the necessary medical examinations. He also noted that 27,000 Palestinian children have been vaccinated.
Egyptian hospitals have received more than 8,000 injured Palestinians suffering from various wounds, accompanied by 16,000 companions. More than 5,160 surgeries have been performed, and 300 hospitals in 26 Egyptian governorates have received injured and sick Palestinians.
There are currently injured Palestinians in 176 hospitals across 24 Egyptian governorates, with accommodation and food provided for all their companions.
Regarding Egyptian rescue efforts, 150 ambulances have been allocated to North Sinai Governorate to receive cases arriving through the crossing from the Palestinian Red Crescent. These vehicles will then be distributed to Egyptian hospitals, with the participation of 750 paramedics and drivers.
The Minister of Health also added that the total cost of medical services provided by Egypt amounted to approximately $578 million and is expected to reach $1 billion, especially with the state covering subsistence, hospitality, and accommodation expenses. He further noted that the amount of in-kind aid Egypt has received from other countries does not exceed 10 percent of the total cost it has incurred since the beginning of the crisis.
The Minister of Health added that the Ministry of Health has allocated 38,000 doctors and 25,000 nurses of various specialties to treat medical cases, in addition to providing the necessary treatment for chronic cases among those arriving from the Gaza Strip. He explained that the President has instructed the government, particularly the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the crisis to take all necessary measures and procedures to alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers.
