CAIRO - 13 September 2020: Angolan Ambassador to Egypt Nelson Cosme expressed thanks to Egypt for the 1.5-ton aid supply it offered to his country upon directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to help the African country confront the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released Saturday, the Angolan Embassy in Egypt said the aid comes within the framework of an initiative from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi that aims to support more than 30 African countries, as part of the African Union COVID-19 Response Fund.
The Angolan ambassador said this aid shows President Sisi’s “spirit of solidarity” in combating the problems facing African peoples, as well as in easing the difficulties of confronting the coronavirus pandemic in Angola.
It also reflects the high level of relations between Cairo and Luanda, in addition to the historical ties binding their peoples.
Days ago, the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi directed the government to send medical aid to 30 African countries to help them contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as part of the Egyptian contribution to the African Union COVID-19 Response Fund.
As per the president’s orders, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry tasked his deputy and head of African gatherings and organizations department ambassador Soha Gendi to cooperate with the concerned ministries in order to ship the $4 million medical aid.
Ten African countries received the first batch of the aid and the other twenty countries will have medical aids during the upcoming period.
Gendi met Saturday at Cairo International Airport with the ambassadors of the African countries receiving the current batch, the latter expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the Egyptian efforts to fight the virus in the continent.
