CAIRO – 6 April 2025: Egypt condemned the latest deadly attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), which resulted in the killing a peacekeeper from Kenya.
The Egyptian foreign ministry issued a statement on Saturday reiterating Egypt’s firm stance against targeting UN peacekeeping missions.
Moreover, it reaffirmed Cairo’s support for the vital role MINUSCA plays in promoting peace and stability in the region, as well as for the countries contributing to UN peacekeeping operations.
In light of this tragic incident, Egypt extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kenya following the loss of their peacekeeper.
The Kenyan blue helmet was killed by a group of assailants late in March in an ambush of a patrol in the southeast of the Central African Republic.
The fallen peacekeeper’s unit was on a long-range patrol near Tabane village when the incident took place, according to a statement by the UN spokesperson’s office.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the family of the peacekeeper as well as to the Kenyan government and people.
Guterres called for the Central African authorities to spare no effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice quickly.
