CAIRO - 23 August 2025: Egypt welcomed the roadmap announced by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Libya, which aims to put an end to the country’s ongoing political crisis.
The roadmap detailed a transitional period which entails forming an interim government to prepare for national elections in Libya within a specified period of 12 to 18 months.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released on Saturday, Egypt stressed the importance of adhering to this timeframe, as it is essential to ensuring the credibility of the political process and fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and development.
This is achieved through a sound electoral process aimed at holding presidential and legislative elections simultaneously, along with the unification of Libyan institutions through a new, unified government.
Egypt reiterated its full support for UN efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Libya, while preserving the unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state.
