CAIRO – 6 September 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Friday with US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as part of ongoing diplomatic consultations on developments in the Gaza Strip.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, the call focused on joint efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, based on proposals put forward by the US envoy.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity for Israel to fully comply with the proposed framework in order to de-escalate tensions, halt the bloodshed among the Palestinian population, ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid, and facilitate the release of hostages and detainees.
He also highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, warning that conditions have deteriorated to the point of famine. He cautioned against the dangers of expanding military operations and the ongoing use of starvation as a method of genocidal warfare.
Additionally, Minister Abdelatty informed the US envoy of Egypt’s preparations to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction, to be convened immediately following a ceasefire. The conference is part of the Arab-Islamic plan adopted at the Arab Summit held in Cairo in March.
The two officials also discussed developments related to the Iranian nuclear file. Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts and diplomatic contacts aimed at creating the conditions necessary for the resumption of negotiations.
He stressed the importance of narrowing differences, encouraging dialogue, and pursuing a sustainable settlement that accommodates the interests of all parties, contributing to de-escalation, rebuilding trust, and fostering regional security and stability.
