CAIRO – 19 July 2022: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with German Minister of Defence Christine Lambrecht on Monday evening during his visit to Berlin to participate in the in the Petersburg Climate Dialogue, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady stated.
During the meeting, El-Sisi asserted that the Egyptian government and people hold in high esteem the close bonds they share with Germany, Rady said, adding that the President expressed interest in further enhancing ties at all levels within the partnership between the two countries, including the military field.
This is in light of mounting regional challenges, mainly terrorism, which requires consolidating efforts to advance mechanisms to counter this transnational threat at the international level, Rady added.
The German Minister of Defence expressed her country's appreciation for the recent development in Egyptian-German relations, stressing Germany's interest in further deepening these relations,given their extended history, Rady said.
Ms. Lambrecht affirmed supporting military and security cooperation between the two countries, particularly the fight against terrorism, border control and illegal immigration, Rady continued, noting that She lauded Egypt's efforts to host more than 6 million refugees, who enjoy basic rights alongside the Egyptian citizens despite the huge additional burdens imposed on the state.
The Spokesman added that views were exchanged during meeting on the latest developments in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, Rady said.
There was agreement to enhance mutual coordination in this context, in light of the challenges facing the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean regions that extend beyond the region, he said, adding that this calls for intensifying cooperation between the two countries in order to overcome them.
