Egypt receives new batch of Russian railway vehicles: Gov't

Egypt's Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir announced Tuesday the arrival of a new batch of new railway passenger vehicles, totaling 13, to Alexandria Port, as part of a deal to manufacture and supply 1,300 new vehicles.

CAIRO – 25 August 2020: Egypt's Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir announced Tuesday the arrival of a new batch of new railway passenger vehicles, totaling 13, to Alexandria Port, as part of a deal to manufacture and supply 1,300 new vehicles.



The minister said in a statement, that this deal is the largest deal in the history of Egyptian Railways, which was signed by the Egyptian Railways Authority and the Russian company, Transmach, representing the Russian-Hungarian consortium, worth €1.16 billion.



He added that with the arrival of these new vehicles (13 vehicles) to the port of Alexandria, the total of what has arrived so far to Egypt has reached 46 third-class vehicles with dynamic ventilation, and another 22 new vehicles will arrive next week, after which the rest of the vehicles will arrive in batches of an average of 35 vehicles per month, according to the specified schedule.



He noted that the 1,300 new passenger vehicles deal includes 800 air-conditioned vehicles (500 third-class air-conditioned vehicles, a new service that is offered to passengers for the first time in the history of Egypt Railways, 180 luxurious second-class vehicles, 90 luxurious first-class vehicles and 30 air-conditioned buffet cars, in addition to 500 third-class air-conditioned vehicles.



The statement added that the new carriages will be added to the daily operating schedule of the railway, so that citizens will witness the monthly entry of 3 completely new trains consisting of tractors and vehicles, which will contribute to the continuation of improving the service provided to the public of passengers and making a huge qualitative leap in the level of the vehicle fleet of the railway.
