WB: Egypt among top MENA countries in remote learning during COVID-19 crisis

CAIRO – 18 May 2020: The World Bank tweeted on Sunday that Egypt is among the top countries in the Middle East and North Africa in terms of remote learning innovations amid COVID-19 crisis.

The World Bank pointed out that the pandemic left around 100 million students in the region out of classrooms, and that Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Morocco have been the best performers with coming up with solutions on that front.

The organization highlighted that the four countries have been using multimedia tools to continue the educational process, and succeeded in building partnerships immediately to offer education services.

Education Minister Tarek Shawki said on Monday the state is keen to sterilize schools during the upcoming Thanaweya Amma tests, to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Preventive measures will be considered during the tests including maintaining social distancing, he noted.

Students also have the option to postpone their exams to the coming year, he added.
