CAIRO – 29 July 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with vice president of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti) in Cairo on Monday, said presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement.

President Sisi stressed Egypt's support to the security of Sudan and its people, Radi said, adding that the meeting discussed bilateral relations, particularly projects of electricity interconnection between both countries.

In a press conference in June 2019, Hemeti said that Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have helped the Sudanese people without imposing any agenda on Sudan.

Egypt is hosted the sixth meeting of the Egyptian-Sudanese Military Committee on July 14-18 under the chairmanship of the chiefs of staff of both countries' Armed Forces.

Since the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir on April 11, 2019, the interim military council has ruled the country, saying that its ruling could last for 2 years until a new democratic government is elected.

Hundreds of Sudanese people protested in a number of governorates to press on the TMC to hand the power to a civilian government.

The situation in Sudan has escalated since June 3, when dozens of protesters were killed by security forces while violently dispersing a sit-in outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense.

However, the military council and opposition leaders reached a deal on July 17, per which a sovereign council will be established and will include civilian and military members.
