CAIRO – 27 April 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty made phone calls with his Pakistani and Indian counterparts following the escalations between the two countries in the wake of a terrorist attack that targeted tourists in the Indian-controlled Kashmir region on Tuesday, leaving dozens of civilians killed and injured.
The Egyptian foreign minister called upon India and Pakistan to exercise self-restraint after the two nuclear-armed countries’ relations strained following the terrorist attack against a tourist bus carrying Indians and a Nepalese person on April 23, 2025. The attacks resulted in killing 26 people.
India accused Pakistan of the attack and responded with downgrading the diplomatic representation and kicked off Pakistani diplomats from New Delhi. Additionally, India called upon all Pakistanis to leave the Indian territories by April 29.
Minister Abdelatty held a phone conversation with Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. During the call, the two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on recent developments in the South Asian region, particularly in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Kashmir.
Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of calm, de-escalation, and the exercise of self-restraint during this critical period, emphasizing the need to prevent further tensions and to support peace, security, and stability in the region.
He praised the longstanding and relations between Egypt and Pakistan, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding ties across various fields. He expressed his aspiration to further develop the strategic partnership between the two countries in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
For his part, Minister Dar expressed appreciation for the strong relationship between Pakistan and Egypt and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors. He also briefed his Egyptian counterpart on Pakistan’s perspective regarding the recent regional developments.
In a separate phone call, Abdelatty talked with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The Egyptian Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the Indian government and people for the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with India in the face of this painful tragedy and reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of all forms of terrorism and extremism. He stressed the importance of maintaining calm and exercising self-restraint at this critical time to avoid further escalation and to preserve regional security and stability. The two ministers also exchanged views on the evolving situation in South Asia in light of the repercussions of the recent attack.
Minister Abdelatty further commended the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and India, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to continued collaboration and the enhancement of their strategic partnership across various sectors to serve the interests of both nations.
In response, Minister Jaishankar expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s solidarity and for the phone call made by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the Indian Prime Minister on April 24, offering condolences and support. He praised the longstanding historical ties between Egypt and India and reiterated his eagerness to advance joint cooperation and further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.
