CAIRO – 24 February 2025: Egypt and Sudan held a round of political consultations on Sunday in Cairo, during which the two sides discussed ways of pushing forward cooperation in all fields.
According to a joint statement, the two counties welcomed the outcomes of the first Egyptian-Sudanese business forum that took place in November, stressing the importance of the good preparation of the second one for Egypt to participate in reconstruction and for bolstering trade exchange and joint investments.
The delegations, headed by the foreign ministers of both Egypt and Sudan, stressed the importance of revising the agreements, MoUs, protocols and executive programmes between the two countries making them more precise. They also agreed on setting a schedule for convening specialized joint committees.
The officials from both states conferred over the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, underscoring the preservation of its sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and state institutions, including the Armed Forces as well as rejecting foreign interventions in its internal affairs.
Hence, the two sides asserted the necessity of ending the conflict, and resolving the crisis through a purely Sudanese process.
The Sudanese delegation expressed appreciation to Egypt for hosting the displaced. On the other hand, the Egyptian one thanked the Sudanese government for taking measures to facilitate the supply of humanitarian aid, such as establishing warehouses for receiving and delivering shipments.
Moreover, the two sides welcomed joint efforts to implement electricity and roads linkage. Egypt has already rehabilitated Sudan's Wadi Halfa Harbor in order to consolidate inland transportation within Sudan and between the two countries.
They also agreed on joining forces to protect their water rights against any unilateral actions, and to restore harmony among Nile Basin countries. They similarly agreed on coordination about security in the Red Sea.
On the regional level, the Egyptian and Sudanese delegations rejected the liquidation of the Palestinian Cause, and stressed the importance of an inclusive political process in Syrian to ensure its territorial integrity. They also welcomed the election of a president to Lebanon, and expressed support to the country's stability.
