CAIRO – 21 July 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit discussed the efforts exerted by Egypt and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave’s residents.
In a meeting on Sunday, the two sides emphasized the necessity of pursuing a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with international legitimacy, the Presidency said in a statement.
Sisi and Aboul Gheit addressed the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people and the prevention of their displacement or the compromise of their just cause as their discussions covered developments in Gaza and the West Bank.
Sisi’s meeting with Aboul Gheit comes while the war in Gaza continues for the 21st month, with Israeli forces killing nearly 60,000 Palestinians so far and pushing the enclave toward imminent famine amid Israeli restrictions on aid.
Hamas and Israel are currently engaged in indirect talks mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the US in a bid to secure a 60-day ceasefire and a captive release agreement.
Egypt, alongside the Arab countries and many countries worldwide, has objected an Israeli-US scheme to displace Gazans from their lands to other countries during the war.
President Sisi has repeatedly warned that the displacement of Palestinians would mean the liquification of their deep-rooted just cause.
Sisi’s meeting with Aboul Gheit also touched on the latest developments in Syria and Libya, in addition to the situation in Sudan and the ongoing efforts to restore security and stability there.
The meeting also covered the political and security situations in the Horn of Africa and the security of the Red Sea.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast commitment to supporting the Arab League, based on its deep belief in the League’s pivotal role in strengthening joint Arab action and unifying Arab ranks in the face of the region’s complex and unprecedented challenges.
The Arab League’s chief, for his part, valued Egypt’s wise positions, which contribute to restoring security and stability in the Middle East, especially through its support for a just and final solution to the Palestinian cause, as the only path to achieving lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.
