Egypt’s Unemployment Rate Drops to 6.4 Percent in Q4 2024

CAIRO – 17 February 2025: Egypt's unemployment rate dropped to 6.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024, reflecting a 0.3 percent decrease compared to the previous quarter, according to the latest data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The country’s labor force grew to 33.124 million individuals, with a 2.8 percent increase from the previous quarter's 32.218 million, while the urban workforce accounted for 14.502 million. Rural areas saw a total of 18.622 million.

This rise is attributed to an increase in employment by 935,000 individuals, coupled with a decline in unemployment by 29,000, resulting in a net workforce expansion of 906,000 people.

The total number of unemployed individuals stood at 2.130 million (1.042 million males and 1.088 million females), reflecting a 1.3 percent decline compared to both the previous quarter and the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, the total number of employed individuals rose to 30.994 million, up from 30.059 million in the previous quarter, marking a 3.1 percent increase in employment.
