CAIRO – 6 August 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reiterated that Egypt continues its efforts to end the war in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and secure the release of captives and prisoners, despite misinformation and distortion campaigns targeting its pivotal role.
Sisi made the remarks as he paid a visit to the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital on Wednesday, where he met with students to discuss key issues in Egypt’s domestic affairs, regional environment, and the war in Gaza.
The president spotlighted the unprecedented destruction in the Gaza Strip, stating that Egypt has made significant efforts since 2007 to avoid escalation, fully aware that the Palestinian people would bear the cost of any conflict.
Sisi’s remarks on Gaza come while Israel has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians since the start of the war in October 2023, according to latest figures by the enclave’s health ministry, including 1,000 people in the last week only.
Among the fatalities, more than 1,500 people have been killed and over 11,200 have been injured while seeking humanitarian aid.
Moreover, mass starvation and malnutrition due to Israeli aid restrictions have killed 193 people, including 96 children, according to the ministry on Wednesday.
Egypt, along with Qatar and the US, has been mediating between Israel and Hamas over the past two years in a bid to achieve a ceasefire that facilitates the release of captives still held in Gaza, ensures adequate aid delivery, and stop the bloodshed among Palestinian civilians.
Moreover, Egypt has accounted for the majority of the humanitarian aid that has entered the enclave, according to officials, with thousands of trucks lining up at the Rafah border crossing ready to enter.
Sisi on Tuesday leveraged a press conference with Vietnamese President Luong Cuong to slam circulating claims that Egypt has blocked aid bound for Gaza, calling the accusations “baseless.”
Sisi noted that prior to the war, between 600 and 700 aid trucks carrying food and essential supplies were entering Gaza daily. “Imagine reducing that number to the point of reaching zero over the past 21 months,” Sisi said.
He added that more than 5,000 aid trucks are currently in Egyptian territory ready to enter Gaza from Egypt and other countries but are hindered due to the presence of Israeli forces on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.
Sisi described Israel’s military campaign in Gaza as “a war of starvation, genocide, and an attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause.”
While speaking to the military students today, the president underlined exceptional circumstances that the Arab World is facing since 2011, not just since the events of October 7, 2023.
He added that such events reaffirm the soundness of Egypt’s policies based on balance, non-interference, and respect for state sovereignty.
Sisi warned against attempts to sow division among Arab nations through the media, emphasizing the strength of Egypt’s ties with its Arab brothers and the need to move beyond disagreements in pursuit of Arab unity.
The president added that while social media is not inherently harmful and can be a valuable tool when used wisely, it can also spread rumors and undermine morale.
This misuse of social media platforms constitutes challenges the Egyptian people are increasingly confronting with awareness and growing understanding, he stressed.
Sisi underlined the negative impact of geopolitical conditions, including the war in Gaza, on Suez Canal revenues, emphasizing that the national path of economic reform remains ongoing despite these challenges.
