Extremists do not represent neither Islam nor Christianity: Al Azhar Grand Imam Tue, May. 17, 2022
CAIRO – 16 May 2022: Ahmed El Tayeb, Grand Imam of Egypt's top Islamic authority, Al-Azhar said that extremists do not represent neither Islam nor Christianity, and that the ‘brotherly relationship’, moderation and respect for the other, is the only thing that strengthens the bonds and save humanity.

He added during meeting with Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholics and head of the Chaldean Catholic Church Louis Raphaël I Sako, that Al Azhar is keen to continue the Islamic-Christian dialogue and address ideas that trouble societies, especially with regard to relations between Muslims, Christians, and followers of other beliefs.

The Grand Imam added that Al Azhar rejects the "minorities" term and prefers to replace it with that of "citizenship" which implies the status of freedom with accompanying responsibilities and equality in rights, duties and social responsibility.

In turn, Sako hailed Tayyeb's steps to spread the culture of peace and coexistence.
