AIRO - 28 September 2021: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed on Sunday to provide all the necessary financial resources for Egypt's pharmaceutical industry.

Meeting ministers and officials concerned, Sisi ordered to develop an integrated plan to enhance the state's efforts to possess the capacity and technology required for production through coordination among the various parties concerned and specialized companies with global experience and reputation.

The meeting aimed to follow up on the national strategy for developing the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt, and the developments of the national project for the manufacturing and assembly of plasma derivatives, as well as the executive position to establish national centres for training medical professionals, and developments of the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus in the country.

During the meeting, Sisi reviewed the most important axes of the strategy to support the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt within studies prepared by the national committee concerned with this purpose, in cooperation with specialized international companies.

Egyptian pharmaceutical factories meet about 80% of Egypt's basic needs, in addition to exporting abroad, the presidential spokesman said in a statement following the meeting.

The meeting also tackled the national efforts, in partnership with the Spanish Grifols company, to achieve self-sufficiency of the plasma derivatives through the establishment of plasma collection centres nationwide.

It also reviewed the progress made to establish advanced regional centres to train medical and health professions cadres in Egypt.

The president was also briefed on the current coronavirus situation, including local and global infection rates, as well as the ongoing national vaccination campaign.
