CAIRO - 7 September 2020: Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri held a session of talks Tuesday with visiting Burundian Minister of External relations and International Cooperation Albert Shingiro.

During the talks, the two sides discussed distinguished Egyptian-Burundian ties, along with ways of bolstering them in the various spheres, as well as an array of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Shoukri and Shingiro are expected to hold a joint press conference at the end of the talks.

Shoukry said Egypt and Burundi seek to boost cooperation, noting the Egyptian private sector paid attention to investing in Burundi over the past years, especially in the fields of construction and health care.

Meanwhile, Shingiro thanked the Egyptian government and people for inviting him to take part in the Egypt International Cooperation Forum, slated for Wednesday.

Shingiro noted that his talks with Shoukry tackled a number of issues of common interest, hailing the close ties between the two countries, citing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's recent visit to his country in March.

The Burundian top diplomat announced forming joint committees to activate signed agreements with Egypt, calling on the Egyptian businessmen to invest and set up projects in his country.

In April 2021, Egyptian and Burundian army Chiefs of staff signed a military protocol that includes cooperation in the fields of training and joint exercise.

The Egyptian-Burundian cooperation protocol enables the two armies to exchange expertise and reflects the consensus in the visions of the two countries’ armies toward the issues of mutual concern, a statement by the Egyptian army spokesman said.

In March 2021, Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye visited Cairo for an official 3-day visit to Egypt in which he met with several high-profile political officials.
