The Russian Center for Science and Culture in Alexandria opened, on Sunday evening, an exhibition of documentary photos about the history of the Battle of Stalingrad and its twinning with the Battle of Port Said in 1956, in partnership with the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in Alexandria, and coincides with the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War
The event witnessed the presence of a delegation of Russian experts in Egypt, which included paintings of pictures of gifts presented by delegations from the Arab Republic of Egypt to the hero city of Stalingrad Volgograd, and pictures with fuel from Egypt in Stalingrad in 1950-1960, and a painting in 1959 by a decision of the Executive Committee of the city of Stalingrad, the name was changed Korskaya Street to Port Said Street.
The paintings also included pictures in 1962, a twinning agreement was signed between Volgograd and Port Said, and photos from the album were courtesy of the Port Said delegation that visited Stalingrad in 1957.
The director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Alexandria, Consul Marat Gatin, said that the exhibition is not only about the Battle of Stalingrad, which became a turning point in the course of the Great Patriotic War and the achievement of the Soviet people, but also about the fact that, according to the agreement signed in 1962, the cities of Port Said and Volgograd (Stalingrad) they became twins.
He added, during a press statement, that the Battle of Stalingrad is one of the most important battles of the Second World War, and that the previous year, the commemoration of Stalingrad was organized in Port Said, given that they were destroyed by the war.
A delegation of Russian experts visited Egypt and held joint meetings with Egyptian experts to discuss aspects of cooperation within the framework of strategic relations between the two countries, as part of the celebration of the Egyptian-Russian Joint Humanitarian Year 2021.
While the delegation arrived in Alexandria on January 29, and lasts for two days, the visit witnesses a number of activities, and official meetings were held today, January 31, and a number of tourist attractions for the governorate were visited, including Qaitbay Citadel and the Library of Alexandria.
