CAIRO – 17 February 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, met with a delegation from the US House of Representatives led by Representative Darrell Issa (California), Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss latest regional developments.
The delegation included Representatives Sheila McCormick (Florida), Chuck Edwards (North Carolina), Jim Costa (California), and James Baird (Indiana).
According to a statement by the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Gaza, as Minister Abdelatty highlighted the efforts made by Egypt to ensure the implementation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement and the hostage-prisoner swap in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, stressing the necessity of continuing the entry of humanitarian aid at an accelerated pace in light of the deteriorating conditions in the Strip.
Moreover, Abdelatty reviewed Cairo’s efforts to formulate an integrated vision for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza within the framework of a comprehensive, multi-stage program, one that ensures Palestinians remain on their land.
He mentioned that the plan is being carried out in coordination with the Palestinian Authority, Arab and Islamic countries, and with support from the international community.
The Minister emphasized the need for a political resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to break the recurring cycles of violence. He reiterated the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with unified territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, based on the two-state solution.
The meeting also included discussions on the evolving situation in the region, particularly developments in Lebanon. Minister Abdelatty underscored the critical importance of Israel's full and unconditional withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
