CAIRO – 24 October 2025: Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad met with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh on Thursday, according to Al Qahera News TV Channel.
Head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Service Majed Faraj attended the meeting.
During the talks, the two sides agreed to support and continue implementing measures of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Al-Sheikh and Faraj was set to arrive in Cairo on Wednesday for talks with Egyptian officials.
The Palestinian vice president emphasized adherence to Arab Summit decisions regarding the Palestinian Authority and the importance of achieving Palestinian consensus.
Meanwhile, Cairo is hosting discussions between Palestinian factions aimed at reaching a comprehensive consensus as part of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza peace.
Egypt has also intensified contacts with the United States to ensure the Gaza ceasefire holds and to promote a just and lasting peace in the region.
Post-War Gaza Governance
The Palestinian Authority expects to play a key role in governing post-war Gaza, nearly two decades after Hamas seized control of the coastal enclave from President Mahmoud Abbas’s government in 2007.
The authority has affirmed that Gaza and the West Bank must remain unified under a single national authority.
The ceasefire in Gaza took effect on October 10 after two years of war as part of the first phase of a broader peace plan proposed by Trump.
Under the plan, Gaza is to be administered temporarily by a “technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee” responsible for managing public services and municipal affairs.
This committee will operate under the supervision of a so-called “Board of Peace,” chaired by Trump, with other members and heads of state to be announced.
Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, remembered for his role in the 2003 Iraq invasion alongside the United States, is expected to join the board.
Eventually, the Palestinian Authority is slated to resume control of Gaza under the plan, following the completion of its ongoing reform program.
Responding to Trump’s proposal, Hamas approved to hand over Gaza administration to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats “based on national Palestinian consensus and backed by Arab and Islamic backing.”
Their statement did not mention the planned global body
Egypt, in cooperation with Jordan, has been training thousands of Palestinian police personnel in Egyptian camps in preparation for their deployment in Gaza.
