CAIRO – 26 January 2026: Egypt reaffirmed its full support for the Palestinian National Authority as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, Ambassador to Ramallah Ihab Suleiman said during a meeting with Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Deputy Chairman of the PLO Executive Committee.

During the meeting, Ambassador Suleiman emphasized the importance of enabling the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities across all Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, reflecting Egypt’s longstanding support for Palestinian national institutions.

The meeting addressed the need to support the technocratic National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which aims to create conditions conducive to the Palestinian Authority’s return to governance in the Strip. Both sides emphasized the geographical, political, and legal unity of Palestinian territories.

Discussions also covered Egypt’s efforts to follow up on the implementation of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, in addition to facilitating the entry of urgent humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate civilian suffering and strengthen emergency response efforts. Coordination regarding the Rafah crossing was also reviewed.

Ambassador Suleiman reiterated Egypt’s firm and categorical rejection of any proposals aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their land, whether in Gaza or the West Bank, stressing that such plans undermine the Palestinian cause.

The talks further focused on Israeli violations in the West Bank, including accelerated settlement expansion, repeated settler attacks, and the financial blockade imposed on the Palestinian Authority. Both sides highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the current peace momentum in Gaza to advance a comprehensive political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law.

For his part, Hussein al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of continued Egyptian-Palestinian coordination, praising Egypt’s historic and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and commending the efforts of the Egyptian leadership in promoting peace and stability across the region.
