CAIRO – 13 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed his US counterpart Donald Trump in Sharm El Sheikh Monday, as both leaders co-chaired a summit aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
President Sisi extended his warm welcome and to distinguished guests participating in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. “From the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where the will of the people converges with the determination of world leaders to bring an end to the war in Gaza, we send a unified message to all of humanity: Enough with war… Welcome, peace”
President Sisi expressed his confidence in President Trump’s ability to help end the war, stating: “I am quite sure that he is the only one who can achieve this accomplishment and bring the war to an end.”
“We want to complete the stages of the ceasefire, release all hostages, complete the handover of bodies to their families in Israel, and allow in all necessary aid to enter [into the Gaza Strip,” President Sisi said.
The Egyptian President also said that he looked forward to President Trump’s support in the Gaza strip reconstruction.
For his part, President Trump praised president Sisi, saying “President Sisi is a friend of mine and a very powerful leader.” He also added: “We're very proud of him because we knew each other from the beginning. The first time I met [him], that was in a hotel and I was going to meet him and then Hillary Clinton was following me. […] And he liked me so much […] That was the first time we met, and we had a very good chemistry together.”
The US President praised Egypt’s role in the summit, “So, we have an incredible partner of along alliance, very capable partner here, and a tremendous collection of leaders,” Trump added.
Speaking on Iran, President Trump said during the meeting: “Iran took a big hit. And frankly, if we hadn't hit them with the nuclear [sanctions or pressure], I don't think this incredible deal, this once-in-a-lifetime deal, would have been possible. You know, no one’s ever seen anything like what's happening today.”
Regarding the next steps that will be taken by after releasing the hostages, Trump said: “Well, they're going and looking for the bodies. It's a pretty gruesome task, and they know where numbers are. I guess five or six are in yet now, but they're looking for bodies, they know the areas, and they search bodies out, and they're doing it in conjunction with Israel. And they're going to be finding quite a few of them.
As for the phase two of the negotiations, Trump said: “Well, I mean, it started as far as we're started.” Trump said that the “phases are all a little bit mixed in with each other. Start cleaning up […] That's why when I talk to my speech, I talk about the debris […] So, we’re going to really do a job.”
The US President also commended the world leaders participating in the summit, saying “the big leaders are here and the kings and everybody, and it's a very interesting group. I guess we have like 35 countries. […] So, there's a lot of respect, and I think you'll see some tremendous progress in the Middle East, this country is doing very well. It has good leadership.”
