CAIRO – 11 October 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi emphasized the importance of granting international legitimacy to the Gaza agreement through the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Saturday.

During a phone call with Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulide, President Sisi also reaffirmed the importance of deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip.

The call focused on the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding the ending of the war in the Gaza Strip.

The Cypriot president expressed his country’s full support for this agreement, and affirmed Cyprus’s backing for its implementation. He lauded Egypt’s vital role and President El-Sisi’s efforts in facilitating the agreement.

President El-Sisi reviewed with the Cypriot president the main aspects and details of the agreement, emphasizing its importance in halting the war, securing the release of hostages and captives, ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid, and initiating the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

President El-Sisi also reiterated the necessity for the full implementation of the agreement’s terms, noting that Egypt has made continuous efforts over the past two years, in coordination with the State of Qatar and the United States, to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people. In this context, President El-Sisi extended an invitation to the Cypriot president to attend a ceremony in Egypt marking the signing of the agreement to stop the war in Gaza.

The two presidents stressed the need to immediately begin the reconstruction process in Gaza. President El-Sisi noted Egypt’s intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction, a proposal welcomed by the Cypriot president.

The call also touched on the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus. The two presidents discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly nations in political, trade, and investment fields.

They agreed to build on the outcomes of their summit held in January 2025, aiming to expand cooperation in sectors such as tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest. In the same context, President Christodoulides confirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s stances within the European Union.
