CAIRO – 11 October 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed in a phone call, Friday with UN Secretary General António Guterres the ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip.
The president briefed the UN chief on the details of the agreement reached through joint Egyptian-Qatari-US mediation, outlining its various phases. He stressed the necessity of reaching full consensus on all aspects related to the agreement's stages and its full implementation.
For his part, Guterres thanked Egypt and President Sisi for the tireless efforts to end the war in Gaza.
He also commended Egypt's sustained endeavors over the past two years to secure a ceasefire, ease the humanitarian suffering of Gaza's residents, and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave, in cooperation with the United Nations and its various agencies.
The UN secretary general voiced his keenness to continue working with Egyptian governmental and relief institutions to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, agreeing with President Sisi on the importance of reaching consensus on all details related to the ceasefire agreement and its implementation phases.
Guterres stressed the need for a political path leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy, ensuring that Gaza and the West Bank remain united under the principle of self-determination.
Moreover, the UN chief underscored the need to deploy international forces in Gaza and to grant international legitimacy to the ceasefire agreement through the UN Security Council.
He also highlighted the urgency of commencing Gaza's reconstruction, welcoming the upcoming conference that Egypt will host for this purpose.
In the same context, the UN secretary general said Egypt remains a central and indispensable pillar for stability in the Middle East and the guardian of the Palestinian people's rights, emphasizing that President Sisi's wise leadership has been instrumental in achieving this landmark agreement.
President Sisi, in turn, expressed his sincere appreciation for the UN secretary general's constructive stance since the onset of the Gaza crisis.
The president confirmed that Egypt has already begun dispatching urgent food and medical aid shipments to Gaza following the ceasefire deal.
He reiterated Egypt's firm support for the work of UN agencies—particularly UNRWA—in Gaza and in host countries, underlining the significance of preserving the agency's historic role in assisting and employing Palestinian refugees
