CAIRO – 9 October 2025: The President of the United States (US) Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that he plans to visit Egypt soon to participate in the official signing of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

During a cabinet meeting at the White House on Thursday, Trump said, "The trip to Egypt is being arranged. We will go for an additional signing there, after we have already done an initial signing."

He explained that the return of the Israeli prisoners could take place "on Monday or Tuesday," noting that the final timing of the visit is still being coordinated.

This comes after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended an invitation earlier on Wednesday to US President to visit Egypt and attend the signing ceremony of the peace agreement that aims to put an end to the war in Gaza.

In the bigger picture, Egypt hosted intensive talks in Sharm El Sheikh during the last three days between high-level delegations from Hamas and Israel, aimed at ending the war in Gaza within the framework of a peace plan proposed by Trump.

The talks were attended by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff from the American side, with strong presence from mediating countries represented by Head of the General Intelligence Services (GIS) Major General Hassan Rashad, his Turkish counterpart, Ibrahim Kalin, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Besides Hamas, several Palestinian factions were present at the negotiations, including Al Jehad movement and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
