CAIRO – 9 October 2025: The President of the United States Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of the peace plan aiming to put an end to the war in Gaza.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that all hostages will be released very soon and Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed-upon line “as a first step toward a strong, lasting, and eternal peace."
Trump expressed his gratitude towards mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey whose efforts led to this “historic and unprecedented event”.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said that the negotiations are going ‘very well’, and that a Gaza deal is ‘very close’, adding that he ‘may go to Egypt on Sunday’.
Egypt has been hosting intensive talks in Sharm El Sheikh between high-level delegations from Hamas and Israel since Monday, aimed at ending the war in Gaza within the framework of a peace plan proposed by Trump.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff have joined the talks on Wednesday, while Head of the General Intelligence Services (GIS) Major General Hassan Rashad and his Turkish counterpart, Ibrahim Kalin, also joined the talks later on, alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Moreover, several Palestinian factions joined the negotiations, including Al Jehad movement and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Hamas was reported to show great flexibility during discussions.
Hamas has also demanded security guarantees to assure that Israel won’t resume its aggression according to Al Qahera news channel.
The participants in Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations discussed on Wednesday mechanism to enter aid inside the Gaza Strip. The discussion was also said to take place amidst ‘positive’ atmosphere.
Fatah spokesman said in statements to al Qahera news channel that they appreciate the Egyptian role in ending the war on Gaza.
Head of the Arab League Mission to the United Nations, also affirmed that the Sharm el-Sheikh meetings are important for halting the aggression on Gaza and shaping the future.
