Egypt condemns targeting Aden airport in Yemen by terrorist attack

  Egypt condemned on Wednesday the targeting of the Aden Airport in Yemen, which was hit by heavy explosions during the landing of a plane carrying the newly formed cabinet, leaving several dead and wounded.

CAIRO – 30 December 2020: Egypt condemned on Wednesday the targeting of the Aden Airport in Yemen, which was hit by heavy explosions during the landing of a plane carrying the newly formed cabinet, leaving several dead and wounded.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the government reiterated its support for Yemen's security and stability and for the Yemeni people to achieve their aspirations and fight all forms of terrorism.

It was added that such terrorist attacks will not undermine the new government's efforts to restore state institutions and reach a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis, the ministry added.

The ministry offered sincere condolences to the Yemeni government and people over victims of this terrorist attack, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

According to al Arabiya news channel, one journalist was killed and 4 others were wounded in the terrorist attack.

Aden International Airport in Yemen witnessed explosions due to its targeting by mortar shells and Katyusha rockets, coinciding with the arrival of the new Yemeni government plane, and leaving dozens of dead and wounded, according to eyewitnesses.

The terrorist attack took place two days after the new Yemeni government took the constitutional oath before President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and coincided with the arrival of a plane carrying members of the government.
