Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with International Committee of the Red Cross President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger on Sunday on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The meeting focused on the humanitarian situations in Gaza and Sudan, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the ICRC and support the organization’s humanitarian and relief operations.
Abdelatty praised the ICRC’s efforts to protect victims of conflict and violence, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation with the organization and supporting international efforts to ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
He also highlighted the humanitarian role played by Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent in responding to crises across the region, particularly in Gaza and Sudan.
The discussions also addressed ways for the ICRC to make use of Egypt’s capabilities and resources in supporting its humanitarian operations, helping strengthen the organization’s ability to respond effectively to worsening humanitarian crises.
In a post on X, Abdelatty described the discussion with Spoljaric Egger as constructive, saying the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and leverage Egypt’s capabilities in support of the ICRC’s humanitarian and relief operations.
