Egyptian, Iraqi FMs review preparations for upcoming Arab League Summit in Baghdad

CAIRO- 4 May 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq Fuad Hussein in Cairo on Sunday, The two top diplomats reviewed the preparations for the the 34th Ordinary Arab Summit scheduled on May 17 in Baghdad.


Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Iraq’s security and stability.


He expressed appreciation for the progress in Egyptian-Iraqi relations across various sectors in recent years and emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation programs to deepen bilateral ties. These efforts, he noted, aim to serve the interests of the two brotherly nations and promote mutual advancement.

The ministers also discussed cooperation in key areas including electrical interconnection, infrastructure development, counterterrorism, capacity building, and boosting Iraqi tourism to Egypt.

Moreover, They explored ways to encourage Egyptian companies to expand their presence in Iraq across various sectors, while promoting mutual investment and enhancing trade exchange.

Ambassador Khallaf added that the talks touched upon preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit, to be held in Baghdad on May 17. The ministers reviewed progress in joint projects between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan under the tripartite cooperation mechanism.




Additionally, the ministers exchanged views on efforts to reinstate the ceasefire in Gaza, they touched upon means to mobilize support for the Arab plan to reconstruct Gaza, and Egypt’s upcoming international conference on early recovery and reconstruction efforts.


Further discussions included the latest developments in Syria and Lebanon, as well as broader regional dynamics. Both ministers emphasized the need for continued collaboration to achieve security and stability throughout the Arab region.
